Improved efficacy by treatment with optimized dosage forms

Development concepts

In the pharmaceutical development phase the biopharmaceutical properties of the active drug ingredients, their pharmacokinetics as well as the therapeutic goals have to be taken into consideration:

Solubility: Poorly soluble compounds frequently imply significant bioavailability problems, which require appropriate formulation design features.

Absorption site: A number of drug substances are not going to be absorbed evenly throughout the entire gastro-intestinal tract. For the development of extended release preparations, in particular for once daily treatment, absorption conditions have to be known and should be taken into account consequently.

Gastro-intestinal transit: The biopharmaceutical performance of medicinal products can be significantly affected by the physiology of the gastro-intestinal tract. The knowledge of relevant interactions, e.g. elucidated by means of gastro-intestinal imaging studies, offers an appropriate basis for the development of improved solid oral dosage forms.

Implementation

The development of concepts for pharmaceutical improvement of medicinal products is one of our core competences. Supported by our external partners Prof. Ernst Mutschler and Prof. Werner Weitschies we look forward to sharing our experience in this field with your internal experts.
